Enhance Training supports children’s mental health and wellbeing

Over the past 12 months, Enhance Training and the Australian Council for Educational Research have been collaborating on an important project that will assist trainers and students in Early Childhood Education and Care.

Lead trainer and Assessor, Rebecca Hughes and Certificate III ECEC students tested resources from Beyond Blue’s Be You website as part of the national Be You for VET project.

What is Be You?
Be You is a free online website packed with resources designed to help educators in early learning centres and schools - and educators in training – support children and young people achieve their best possible mental health. Early learning centres and schools can join Be You too.

Be You is only two years old, but more than 10,000 early learning centres and schools and over 130,000 individual educators have already joined. Numbers are growing every day, so if you are not already working in a Be You early learning centre, it’s likely you will be at some time in your career.

What should I look at first?

Enhance students recommend these Fact Sheets:

Brain development and Child development.

You should also check out this new video: https://beyou.edu.au/stories/kids-capers-north-lakes

You’ll see a Be You early learning centre in action and get some great ideas on things you can do to support young children’s social and emotional wellbeing.

How did Enhance Training help?

There’s a LOT of useful information on the Be You website - but if you’re studying a Certificate III or Diploma in Early Childhood Education and Care you might not have time to search for it.

The Be You for VET project set out to find the TOP PICKS - the best of the best - for educators in training. That’s where Enhance Training has been able to help! Bec and our students tested some Be You resources to find the ones that were easy to read and directly relevant to the CIII.

Their feedback was combined with feedback from trainers and learners around Australia. Most learners liked the Fact Sheets and short videos best, but some were also keen to read through Be You’s Professional Learning modules for more in-depth information (and to get a certificate they could use on their resumes).

The Be You team is now developing the final version of the Certificate III ECEC Trainer Guide with Top Picks for learners. There’s a Top Picks for Diploma students in the pipeline too.

You’ll find the project pilot versions on the Be You for VET webpage https://beyou.edu.au/get-started/vet.
